The Shuar communities require suitable information to adequately and timely manage exposure to Covid-19 and reduce the risk of contagion and the anguish caused by disinformation. Although much less exposed than people in the cities, the Shuar population has a special concern regarding this pandemic, considering that in the past some epidemics such as smallpox, measles and influenza wiped out entire communities.
With this in mind, Step Forward implemented a protocol for the prevention of Covid-19 contagion and has provided suitable information and food to the Shuar communities in the central region of Morona Santiago during the crisis.
The information released contains messages of prevention and good cheer that disprove the most common myths regarding the pandemic. The broadcast is done through local radio stations, social networks, virtual platforms, text messages, phone calls and voice-to-voice messages.
