The Challenge
The territorial scatter of the Shuar communities and their lack of resources to promote sports activities not only limits their opportunities for recreation and fun, but also impacts the health of their members. Indeed, walking, traveling between one community and another takes between one to seven hours, and an average of three days to the nearest urban center.
Additionally, children and teens lack extracurricular activities that allow them to take advantage of their free time.
Objective
Step Forward seeks to develop initiatives and execute activities that promote the integration of the Shuar communities and allow them to develop values associated with improving their coexistence and promoting their social cohesion, based on the practice of ancestral games and other sports that strengthen their cultural identity.
Step Forward also seeks to train sports leaders and develop individual and collective skills among communities, favouring inclusive participation and strengthening values.
